Class 4 Impact-Resistant Shingles: Are They Worth It in Dallas?
Class 4 shingles pass a standard steel-ball impact test. They resist hail better but are not hail-proof.
What the rating means
The UL 2218 test drops steel balls of set sizes. Class 4 is the top rating in that test.
Insurance questions
Some Texas insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs. Ask for it in writing and ask what proof they need.
Limits
Very large hail can still damage them. Some policies treat cosmetic damage differently, so read your policy.
